WAFU B U-20 Championship: Flying Eagles must not underrate Togo – Maikaba

Date:

Flying Eagles head coach, Abdu Maikaba has shifted  attention to the team’s second Group B fixture against the  Sparrow Hawks of Togo.

The defending champions started their title defence at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship with a thrilling 4-2 victory over eternal rivals, Black Satellites of Ghana on Monday.

Muiz Adeleke (brace), Olayemi Ayinla, and Oraro Isaac were on target for Nigeria in the game.

Maikaba’s side will now look to seal a place in the semi-finals when they face Togo on Thursday.

Togo fell 3-1 to Burkina Faso in their opening fixture.

The gaffer is however not willing to take anything for granted against the Sparrow Hawks.

“We have finished with the first game and the second game is going to be equally important because Togo are also not pushovers and it’s also a rivalry game between Nigeria and Togo,” Maikaba said.

“We have to put our heads down, plan very well for Togo, make sure we get the second win that will qualify us to the semi-final.”
