The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 14 suspects and recovered stolen cows, motorcycles, cable wires and a goat in a series of operations across the state as part of efforts to curb cattle rustling, motorcycle theft and vandalism.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists by the Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command, Shi’isu Adam, on Friday in Dutse, the state capital.

According to the statement, the PPRO said, “The command recorded significant operational successes in the last one week following intelligence-driven patrols and collaboration with vigilante groups and community watch teams.”

He disclosed that on September 1, 2026, operatives attached to Jahun Police Division intercepted a Volkswagen Golf wagon, with registration number AS 305 UGH, parked by the roadside after Lautai Village with three cows inside.

“Four suspects, Sunusi Muhammad, 45 years; Yaro Danladi, 25 years; Nuhu Mohammed and Adamu Muhammad, 25 years, all of Abunabo Village in Guri LGA, were arrested,” Adam stated.

He added that the suspects confessed during investigation and that the case was transferred to SCID, Dutse, for discreet investigation.

In another incident, also on September 1, police intercepted Aliyu Mohammed, 27, of Gashua in Bade LGA, Yobe State, along the Hadejia-Kano Road while riding a TVS motorcycle.

“During questioning, he could not give a satisfactory account of the motorcycle. He later confessed to stealing it from Maradi, Niger Republic, with the intention of selling it in Kano,” the PPRO said.

The Jigawa Police spokesperson further revealed that on August 31, Gwiwa Police Division acted on a report of vandalism at Indirawa Village and arrested three suspects: Usamatu Abdullahi, 20; Yusuf Salisu, 19; and Yakubu Abdullahi, 19, all of Indirawa Village.

“The suspects allegedly removed and stole security-light cable wire valued at ₦700,000. The vandalised cable wire was recovered,” he noted.

On September 8, one Aminu Aliyu, 40, of Dan Masara Quarters, Dutse, reported the theft of his red Bajaj motorcycle, with registration number GRM-420VH, parked near his farm at Manuna Yabaza Village.

“Investigation led to the arrest of Ibrahim Rabiu, 35 years, of Yabaza Village, Birnin Kudu LGA, who confessed to the offence. The motorcycle was recovered,” Adam said.

Moreover, the PPRO announced the arrest of Mohammed Bello Aminu, 18, of Tsangaya Quarters, Birnin Kudu, on September 8, in collaboration with vigilantes.

“He was found in possession of armoured cable wire allegedly stolen from Gidan Dawaki area of Bamaina district. He confessed to the crime,” he added.

On September 7, acting on credible information, police arrested Musa Adamu, 30, of Jumunu Settlement Camp, Garki LGA, and Alhassan Usman, 40, of Gidan Maza Village, Ringim LGA, with a goat and an unregistered blue Honda motorcycle suspected to be stolen.

“They confessed to the commission of the offence during interrogation,” SP Adam stated.

The statement further said that on September 4, a joint patrol with Kazaure Community Neighbourhood recovered a new red Daylong motorcycle hidden in farmland along the Kazaure-Yankwashi Road.

“Investigation revealed it belongs to Umar Ado, 20 years, of Takwasa Village, who was knocked down by passengers on September 3 and the motorcycle was taken away. Efforts to arrest the suspects are ongoing,” the PPRO explained.

Adam also said that on September 6, police and CJTF Hadejia arrested Ibrahim Badamasi, 19, of Nasarawa Quarters, Hadejia, with Boxer motorcycle parts suspected to be stolen.

“During investigation, he confessed to receiving the motorcycle from Auwal Kabiru, 23 years, of Dala Quarters, Hadejia, before dismantling it. Auwal was also arrested, and he mentioned one Abba Isa Ruwa, a suspected notorious criminal now at large, as the source,” he said.

“Investigation into all the cases is ongoing and the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion,” he stated.

Further highlighting the recoveries, the PPRO said various types of spanners believed to have been used in dismantling motorcycles were recovered from the first suspect’s residence.

Commending the operatives and community partners, SP Adam quoted the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, as saying, “We commend our personnel, vigilante members, community neighbourhood watch and CJTF whose vigilance and cooperation made these successes possible.”
