The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15 Osun State election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), on Thursday promised to run an inclusive administration anchored on equity, transparency and people-centred governance if elected governor.
Speaking at the party’s governorship campaign flag-off held at Enuwa Square, Ile-Ife, Oyebamiji assured residents that no part of the state would be marginalised under his administration, saying development projects and government resources would be distributed fairly across all communities.
“We will run a government that benefits everyone. Resources will be distributed equitably across Osun State, and no community will be neglected,” he declared before thousands of APC supporters and party leaders.
The APC standard bearer unveiled his development agenda, with promises to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, electricity supply, workers’ welfare and economic empowerment.
He pledged to strengthen the state civil service through regular capacity-building programmes, saying civil servants—particularly teachers—would receive continuous training both within and outside Nigeria to improve service delivery.
“We will take better care of our workers, especially teachers. We will invest in their professional development and expose them to global best practices through training and retraining programmes,” he said.
On healthcare, Oyebamiji lamented the condition of public health facilities across the state and promised to rehabilitate and equip hospitals and primary healthcare centres to enhance access to quality medical services.
“Our hospitals are in poor condition. When we assume office, we will revitalise our health centres and ensure quality healthcare delivery for all residents,” he said.
He also outlined plans to boost agricultural production through mechanised farming, promising to support workers and young people interested in agriculture with the necessary resources to increase food production and create jobs.
Addressing electricity challenges, the APC candidate disclosed that discussions were at an advanced stage with a German firm to improve power supply across the state.
According to him, the proposed partnership would deliver about 3.5 megawatts of electricity to support businesses, artisans and industrial growth.
“We are committed to improving electricity supply to stimulate economic activities. Once elected, we will conclude discussions with our technical partners and commence implementation,” he said.
Oyebamiji further pledged grants, soft loans and other empowerment initiatives for traders, artisans and transport operators as part of efforts to stimulate small businesses and expand economic opportunities.
Earlier, the APC governorship candidate paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, where he promised to facilitate the reconstruction of critical roads within Ile-Ife.
He identified the Enuwa–Fajuyi Junction Road, Ilare–Sabo Road and Aderemi Road linking Ondo Road as priority projects, adding that assessments had already been conducted ahead of implementation.
He also pledged to rehabilitate dilapidated primary schools and establish a modern market that would reflect the historical and cultural status of Ile-Ife as the cradle of the Yoruba race.
“We want to build a world-class market befitting the status of Ile-Ife. Visitors from across the world should immediately recognise the city’s unique place in Yoruba history and civilisation,” Oyebamiji stated.
In his remarks, the Ooni of Ife called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns as the governorship election approaches.
The monarch warned against violence and political intolerance, urging residents to preserve the peaceful atmosphere for which Osun State is known.
“I appeal to all political actors to embrace peace. There should be no bloodshed in Osun. Elections will come and go, but the state will remain. I plead with everyone to vote peacefully and reject violence because Osun is greater than any individual,” the Ooni said.
