Former Head of the National Office (HNO) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria, Amos Dangut, has assumed office as the council’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer for a five-year term.

Mr Dangut, who assumed office yesterday, 1 October, succeeds Pateh Bah of The Gambia and will serve until September 2031.

His appointment was ratified by WAEC’s International Governing Board, known as the Council, at its 74th Annual Meeting held in Accra, Ghana, in March 2026.

Mr Dangut joined WAEC in 1998 and has held several positions spanning test development, examination security, test administration and the management of the council’s branch and zonal offices. He was appointed Head of WAEC’s National Office in Nigeria in October 2023.

He is succeeded as HNO by Suleman Kum, who was the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration at WAEC Nigeria before his appointment. Mr Kum previously served as WAEC Branch Controller and Zonal Coordinator in several regional offices.

A statement signed by Demianus Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, noted that during his tenure as HNO, Mr Dangut oversaw the rollout of Computer-Based WASSCE, the serialisation of question papers and the introduction of a Digital Electronic Marking System, alongside digital services including the Digital Certificate Portal, WAEC E-Study Platform and Digital Records Archive.
