2027: Rep, Olajide, Pledges 9,900 Street-Light Poles, Jobs In Oyo South

The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) senatorial candidate for Oyo South, Hon. Adedeji Olajide, has pledged to facilitate provision of 9,900 street-light poles, employment opportunities and promotion of infrastructural development across the senatorial district if elected in the 2027 elections.

He made the pledge on Thursday during an interactive session with Community Development Committees (CDCs) from Ido and Ibarapa East Local Government Areas, where he unveiled what he described as his development “social pact” with communities.

He said his agenda would focus on education, agriculture, healthcare, technology, employment and infrastructure, with grassroots communities playing a central role in determining development priorities.

Under his proposed “Light-Up Oyo South Senatorial District” initiative, Olajide (a.k.a. Odidiomo), said 100 street-light poles would be provided in each of the 99 wards across the nine local government areas of the senatorial district, amounting to 9,900 poles.

He said the initiative was intended to enhance security, extend productive hours and support commercial activities in communities across Oyo South.

On employment and skills development, the candidate said his agenda would include technical and vocational education and training for youths, digital and artificial intelligence training for teachers, ICT and science laboratory interventions, as well as, technology and entrepreneurship grants.

The senatorial candidate also proposed establishment of an ICT hub in each of the nine local government areas in Oyo South, saying the initiative would provide opportunities for young people to acquire digital skills and participate in the technology-driven economy.

In agriculture, Odidiomo promised to introduce an Ibarapa Agriculture Empowerment and Value Chain Programme, comprising an agricultural equipment bank, an agro-processing hub, solar-powered irrigation, farmers’ cooperatives, market linkages and an Agricultural Financing Desk.

He also pledged to facilitate the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Oyo South, citing the existence of similar federal medical facilities in neighbouring states and parts of Lagos.
