Iyabo Ojo defends ex-husband’s prominent role at daughter’s wedding

Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has explained why she ensured her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo, played a visible role during their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding, saying she was determined not to allow her personal differences with him affect their child.

The actress disclosed during a Monday appearance on The Morayo Show, where she reflected on the decision that drew widespread public attention during the star-studded wedding celebrations.

Iyabo Ojo married Ademidun Ojo in 1999 at the age of 21. The marriage produced two children:, Festus Oladunjoye Ojo, born on June 21, 1999, and Priscilla Ajoke Ojo, born on March 13, 2001

The couple divorced in 2001, shortly after the birth of their daughter, with Iyabo attributing the end of the marriage to marrying at a young age and the pressures of early motherhood

Responding to a question from the host, Morayo Afolabi-Brown on why she allowed her former husband to be so prominent despite their separation, Ojo said she was guided by her belief in breaking unhealthy family patterns.

According to her, she was determined that her children would not repeat the mistakes of previous generations.

“I don’t know, there’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe in it. Christians also. I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it.

“So I made up my mind that whatever situation had happened, because my dad and my mum were also not together, every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it.

“So I had to put aside what I felt, my differences, and play my part. That’s why I said I have paid the price for her to succeed and for her to be happy in her marriage,” she said.

Ojo stressed that her former husband remained Priscilla’s father and deserved to witness one of the biggest moments of her life.

“Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there? He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. It has nothing to do with her.

“I made the choice to marry him. So whatever is going on between me and him is between me and him. It shouldn’t extend to my children,” she added.

The actress also dismissed the perception that she is an overly strict mother, admitting that although she was once firm with her children, they eventually understood the reasons behind her parenting style.

Priscilla Ojo married Tanzanian singer Juma Jux in a series of elaborate wedding ceremonies held across Tanzania and Nigeria in 2025. The celebrations attracted several celebrities and dignitaries and became one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year.

In July 2025, the couple announced their pregnancy via Instagram; a gender reveal in Tanzania confirmed a baby boy. The baby shower was held in Canada, attended by Iyabo Ojo and others.

In August 2025, Priscilla gave birth to their son, Rakeem Ayomide Mkambala, in Canada. She shared that contractions started at 3 a.m., cancelling her “slay” and content plans. Rakeem arrived earlier than expected (on or before Juma’s birthday, which was the due date).

She humorously noted on Snapchat that their son wants to shine alone.

Priscilla has since shared her postpartum journey, posting at 14 days postpartum and continuing with fitness, fashion, and glowing appearances into 2026, which fans have praised.
