The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Chief Kefas Ropshak, has officially unveiled Dr Daniel Kim as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was made on Friday during a high-powered PDP stakeholders’ caucus meeting held in Jos, the state capital.

Introducing his choice to the party faithful in Jos,  Ropshak described Kimas, a seasoned educationist from the Berom extraction in Plateau North, as a man of integrity whose wealth of experience and commitment to public service would be pivotal to the party’s mission of uplifting the less privileged.

While expressing his gratitude to the state and national leadership of the PDP for their “unwavering confidence” in his candidacy, the governorship hopeful vowed not to betray the trust reposed in him.

He said, “I am committed to unifying this party. We will work collectively to ensure victory in 2027. The PDP remains the party to beat in Plateau, and I assure every member that fairness and equal opportunity will be our watchword.”

In a move to heal internal wounds, Ropshak extended an olive branch to fellow aspirants who lost out during the party’s primaries, urging them to remain steadfast and promising that they would be integral to the campaign and future administration.

Addressing the protracted internal crisis rocking the main opposition party, Ropshak took a definitive stand, declaring the faction led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as the authentic leadership of the PDP.

He further confirmed that the party’s national leadership had dissolved the Raymond Dabo-led executive committee in Plateau State, signalling a major structural realignment. Despite reports of overtures from other political platforms, Ropshak insisted he would remain in the PDP to fight for its success.

The PDP flagbearer did not mince words in his Critique of the incumbent Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration. Ropshak alleged a lack of transparency in the utilisation of state resources, claiming that the current government had received significantly higher federal allocations than the previous administration of Senator Simon Lalong, with little to show for it.

“Can anyone point to any significant capital project that will be commissioned before the next election? Despite the huge funds coming into the state, the impact on the ground remains invisible,” he said.

He promised that if elected, his administration would prioritise the restoration of peace and security in the state, vowing to end the “incessant killings” and revitalise the economy to benefit the common man.

Earlier, the Plateau State PDP Chairman, Hon. Peter Tongshin, informed the caucus that the party had formally submitted the names of its candidates to the relevant electoral authorities.

He also announced the reappointment of Chris Hassan as the Director-General of the Kefas Ropshak Campaign Organisation.

The meeting also featured remarks from Hon. John Bull Shekarau, a Plateau South Senatorial District hopeful, who cautioned members against internal sabotage as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.
